Economy

Varnsdorf belongs to the forefront of the industrial centres of the Děčín district and among the economic centres of the Czech part of the Euroregion Nisa. The town has become well-known both at home and abroad, thanks in no small measure to the products of the textile companies Velveta and Elite and the engineering company Továrny obrábecích strojů (TOS). The current production in these companies builds on long-standing traditions. As early as 1777, for example, the first attempts were recorded in the production of velvet and corduroy.
As economic entities doing business in Varnsdorf, natural persons outnumber legal persons (about five times). The largest number of economic entities is either completely without employees or with up to 9 employees (micro-enterprises). There are only 3 large enterprises with 250 employees and above.
The largest representation of entrepreneurs can be found in the service sector (trade, accommodation, catering, etc.). Another significant representation of entrepreneurs is in construction and industry. Industrial enterprises are mainly focused on textile production, production of machinery and equipment, metal structures, rubber and plastic products, food production.
As far as the agricultural business is concerned, cattle grazing and grassland maintenance are the predominant agricultural activities. Varnsdorf is also home to agricultural processing enterprises (Varnsdorf Dairy, Varnsdorf Smokehouse, etc.).
