Culture

The town of Varnsdorf is becoming an increasingly lively centre of culture in the region, mainly thanks to the Municipal Theatre, which forms the heart of the cultural scene. It is here, in the adjacent Gallery D, that a wide range of events, from exhibitions to concerts, take place every month. The theatre itself offers everything from theatre performances to music concerts, not only for local residents but also for people from the surrounding Šluknov region. In addition to professional performances, there are also regular amateur groups, where both children and adults find their place on stage. The municipal theatre gives space to all generations and is a real centre of community life.

Municipal Theatre Municipal Library

In spite of the strong influence of modern media, the Varnsdorf Municipal Library still holds a firm place in Varnsdorf. It is a place where book lovers gather and where people can stop for a while and immerse themselves in the world of literature. The library offers not only classic sections for adults and children, but also a music section and a contact point for Lausitz. Its modern study room with a comfortable reading room invites you to relax quietly with a good book. Every year the library organises a range of events, from the popular Literary Varnsdorf competition to a literary competition for young talents called Drápanda. The cultural programme also includes the Lusatian-Serbian Poetry Festival, a regional book mini-market and interesting talks, lectures and exhibitions. The town library is not only a place for reading, but also a meeting centre where everyone can find their own thing.

There are also a number of galleries in the town. Besides the already mentioned Gallery D, other galleries are located in the HEL&P health centre (Gallery Úsměv), in the ZUŠ (Gallery Liduška) and in the Municipal Office building(Gallery Radnice). Other important cultural facilities include the Museum, whose building is currently undergoing preparations for a general reconstruction.

Museum

The Circle of Friends of the Varnsdorf Museum is associated with the museum. This group includes the Friends of History and Historical Buildings Club, the Artists' Club, the Photographers' Club, the Mineral Club and the Natural History Club.

Important annual events in the town are the autumn Mandava Jazz and the folklore events Mardi Gras and Witch Burning. For the use of leisure time of children and young people there is a Primary Art School and a House for Children and Youth, where many interest groups work to develop the talents and hobbies of children.

Several places are worth mentioning, which have recently been renovated and are now coming back to life. One of them is the Panorama Centre, which, thanks to its modern DOLBY DIGITAL sound system and generous 557-seat capacity, offers an unforgettable cinema experience. If you prefer live music, Pivovar Kocour is the place to be - its space regularly hosts concerts ranging from rock to jazz to folk, and occasionally hosts sporting events. For the older generation, there's the Senior Club Pohádka, which hosts interesting lectures and events every month
