Varnsdorf plans to reconstruct the Old Railway Station: a project documentation developer is being sought
The idea of buying the Old Railway Station building in Boženy Němcová Street dates back to the beginning of 2022. The Railway Administration, the owner, offered it to the city for a sum of around CZK 3 million and the council was unanimously in favour.
However, the transfer of ownership to the town of Varnsdorf took almost two more years. The transfer was hampered by the procedure for the sale of the Railway Administration's property, which the Ministry of Transport must submit to the government. "Last week I signed the handover protocol and received the keys to the building. I believe that the purchase was not in vain and we will find a meaningful use for it," said the town's mayor Jan Šimek last January.
Now Varnsdorf has announced a tender for the preparation of project documentation for the reconstruction of the Old Railway Station building. In the future, the building could be turned into a centre offering offices, a meeting room, an open coworking space, a café and a small apartment for two people. The attic could be used for cultural and creative activities such as a studio, AV workshop or recording studio. The tender is currently being evaluated.
The city has been promised a subsidy of CZK 2 million for the project documentation from the Ústí nad Labem Region from the programme Preparation of projects for the public sector - Equitable transformation 2021-2027.
