Architectural studio Reaktor presented the first concept study for Mašíňák and its surroundings

The architects at Reaktor first collected data through a participatory survey, which was completed by nearly 200 residents of Varnsdorf, and then through a public walk with the city architect and city officials. The aim of the proposed study is to sensitively transform the space so that it better serves all age groups – families, seniors, and athletes – while preserving the natural character of the area.

The presentation was attended not only by city representatives led by the mayor, but also by several citizens who had the opportunity to comment on the proposal and ask questions directly to the authors of the study. They presented their vision for the gradual transformation of Mašíňák.

One of the points of the concept is to connect the area behind the hospital and Kaiser Park with Mašíňák. The grassy area could be transformed into a natural playground for sports use, such as a pump track. A gazebo/clubhouse could also be built on the site, which could be used by schools for teaching children, scouts, or cyclists as a base. The adjacent Kaiser Park, which is unknown and somewhat hidden from most residents, could also be revitalized.

The entrance from the hospital could be transformed into a park that would connect the entire area and offer picnicking, seating, and relaxation for people undergoing treatment at the local hospital. The design includes several piers along the embankment that would bring people closer to the water. In winter, they could be used by winter swimmers for easier access to the water.

A "kiosk" with facilities for the site manager, showers, toilets, outdoor seating, more greenery, play elements on the beach and in the water, and a promenade along the embankment should be built on the main beach.

Another point in the concept is to improve accessibility to the site. At present, there is only a car park at the main entrance to the complex, but the proposal includes the creation of new parking spaces from other directions (near the hospital, the playground behind the hospital) and new footpaths.

Due to the amount of information in the concept, it is not possible to describe it in detail. However, this is the first draft, which the authors will refine over the summer months. The final version should be presented to the public in September. The first draft of the study is available below.
